Parent FAQ

Sourcing When looking for a nanny, the process involves careful consideration of the position requirements and the specific needs of the client. We source our nannies through a trusted network of professional referrals, community connections, and targeted social media outreach. This allows us to attract experienced, high-quality candidates who align with our values and standards. Every nanny is carefully vetted through a detailed screening process that includes interviews, reference checks, and background verification to ensure they’re a strong, trustworthy fit for your family.

Screening Jill founded Little Lighthouse Nannies with the aim of providing families with unparalleled service. Little Lighthouse Nannies sets a high bar for due diligence and personal investment. With more than two decades of experience, she knows firsthand what it takes to care for children and uses this background when selecting providers. We perform an in-depth screening of all candidates. We believe in calling multiple references, and we do not cut corners by using email questionnaires as references. We also spend time with each candidate, really getting to know them and their needs. Each candidate must fill out an in-depth application, and questionnaires, along with being CPR and First Aid certified and have a current resume. Lastly, they must have a pristine driving record and background check.

Timeline  The timeline for filling a position can vary from less than a week to up to 12 weeks, depending on the position. Additionally, it's important to keep in mind that most nannies need to provide a two-week to 30-day notice to their current family.

Rates The rates for each Nanny position may vary depending on several factors such as the geographical location, market demand, number of children, job duties, preferred experience, and the number of hours worked. Generally, you can expect to pay around $20 to $40 per hour for a full-time Nanny, with part-time care often costing a bit more.

Benefits  Although there is no state law for nanny benefits, we want to provide some consideration for an attractive compensation package, in line with the standards of the industry. Please keep these in mind during your interviews with nanny candidates and outlining the Nanny Parent Contract:

  1. All domestic employees receive above-board hourly pay with overtime for any hour over 40 hours per week of time and a half.
  2. They also receive a minimum of 2 weeks of Paid Time Off(PTO), equal to the number of hours that they work weekly, outlined in the contract.
  3. In addition to PTO, they receive paid holidays and if they were to work a holiday, they will receive time and a half. Paid holidays should be outlined in the Nanny Parent Contract.
  4. We suggest our clients consider offering 2 weeks of paid sick time for every 12 months employed. Effective after the 30 day trial period.
  5. All domestic employees receive guaranteed hours and guaranteed pay. More information is below on guaranteed hours and pay.
  6. Some nannies prefer to have their mileage reimbursed if they drive children in their cars.
  7. Some providers will receive a health care stipend and other benefits such as a 401k, holiday and yearly bonuses, toll fees, gym memberships, stipends for enrichment classes, and other perks such as coffee cards and discounts to local businesses depending on where the family works. All up to your discretion and up for negotiation within the contract.

Areas Served Currently, we service Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter and surrounding communities, and are growing every month. We also specialize in serving families visiting from out of town.

Payroll Little Lighthouse Nannies does not offer a payroll service, as payment is resolved between the client and their nanny, directly. However, We recommend ADP for a quick, user friendly and inclusive option for time cards, payment and any additional benefits you may choose to offer.

Contract Having a contract protects both you and your new employee, so everyone is on the same page with expectations. We suggest revisiting the contract at the end of the trial period, and again at the end of each year to re-negotiate your arrangement and make necessary changes.

Guaranteed Hours Guaranteed Hours is considered a standard nanny benefit, also known as Guaranteed Pay. This means that your nanny will receive the minimum amount of pay for the hours they are contracted for each week.  Any hour worked outside of the hours in their contract would be paid out additionally and is to be paid at their hourly rate, including overtime if it applies. Nannies, by law, are hourly employees and cannot be contracted as salary. However, they can receive Guaranteed Hours and Guaranteed Pay as a non-exempt salary employee, meaning that their pay is broken down to hourly and any additional hours are paid.
