Nanny A nanny supports the family in caring for and developing a relationship of consistency with their children.  A nanny will work with the family, taking full responsibility for the children's safety, well-being, and development. A nanny's specific duties include child-related duties, maintaining the cleanliness of toys and rooms used by the children, and preparing the children's meals.  A nanny could be responsible for driving children to school, play dates, and enrichment classes. Some nannies create curriculum for the children too!

Babysitter A babysitter offers short term, as needed care focused mainly on keeping children safe while their parents are away.

Cost  There are no fees to be a nanny within our community!  We do not feel a nanny should be out anything other than some time. We will try and find the best family for you!

Legal Pay Being legally paid means you will be a legal household employee.  The family will collect an I9 form; you will receive paycheck stubs and a W-2 and be required to file your taxes at the end of the year, just as you would in any other profession. Little Lighthouse Nannies is not the employer.

Nanny Parent Contract Jill gives every nanny a copy of her Nanny Parent Contract. You can use this Nanny Parent Contract with any family. There is no cost for this contract. For more information on this topic, please check out our blog.

Mileage Reimbursement  As of 2025, IRS mileage reimbursement is paid out at 70 cents per mile if you use your own car to transport children or use your car while on the job.

We suggest manually tracking your miles, however an app might be more your speed.

CPR  You do not need a current CPR certification to submit an application. However, you will need to have a valid certificate, and email it to us before your start date.  For many parents this is a make-it-or-break-it factor in hiring a new nanny. We recommend completing this course through the Red Cross.
